Here’s a poem I wrote in high school in response to Emily Dickinson’s “Heart, We Will Forget Him!”
Will Your Heart Really Forget Him?
You say that you will forget him.
But, what if you can’t?
What if you go on, but you feel numb?
Your mind might let him go, but —
What if everyday your reminded of him?
What if you can’t go on?
When it comes to me, I will forget.
I forget what hurts me, and move on.
I move on with a shadow.
There’s a shadow over me.
Hanging for all to see.
But no one really cares to share.
No one wants to help me out.
No one want to help my heart, or yours
So, unlike you I will not die.
Not from being unloved.
I will survive to love again.
I wish that I could help out.
But your heart will kill your faith.
Will you love me again
Like you loved me before
This time I want you to love me much more—End Of The Road Boyz II Men
