Graphic Novels

Wool By Hugh Howey

Genre: Graphic Novel

Read Start: 31/12/17

Read Finish: 3/1/18

I’ve been reading more Manga than graphic novels lately and the difference, one of them, I noticed, at least in Wool, is that Manga shows more than tells. Wool was really hard for me to get into because I was told everything that was going to happen before it did. It was frustrating because the premise was great. In a post apocalyptic world the government is still hiding the truth, surprise surprise., and the little people rise up to defeat them. It is a story told about a thousand times in different formats, but this one promised to be more dark and thrilling. Sadly I was unimpressed. I really wanted to like it but I think it need to read more like a novel to be considered a graphic novel and less like a comic strip in the newspapers. Basically I felt that it was rushed when it should have been slowed down to build suspense and let the reader feel the ominous eyes of big brother that they were promised.
