Age Difference

Monstrous by MarcyKate Connolly

Genre: Fiction

So, I had to keep reminding myself that the book was for a younger audience. Being in my late twenties I read a lot of YA and NA, but I saw this book and was intrigued. Also, I got a good deal on It was written wonderfully but a tad underwhelming. I guessed pretty much everything about one hundred pages in. For that I would give a low rating, but again it’s at a lower reading level. While there were some parts that genuienly surprised me, I was left feeling empty at the end. Everyone wants it to work out in the end. That was the appeal of the book to me, happily ever after. But I guess that wasn’t in the cards. The narrative and the world building was strong and beautiful. I enjoyed the quick read, and it was hard to put down. I just wanted to be surprised more, but again wrong age group. I do appreciate the lesson though; Happily ever after may not be real but happiness is.
