So, this is the book that slumped me. At 500 odd pages it is hardly the longest book I’ve read, HP is longer, but it was definitely one of the more emotional reads I’ve experienced.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve put this book down just because I know that there was no happy ending in sight. You find that out early on because Henry warns Clare and yet, like Clare, we find ourselves optimistically hoping.
While I want to remain spoiler free, I just have to say… What. The. Fuck. We get this tragic love story doomed from the jump, but like love sick idiots we continue to read. And when our little fantasy world crumbles, because it does on several occasions — OK three times — we look around confused and hurt.
While the story is amazing and written wonderfully I still felt raw after it. Kind of how I felt after reading “My Sister’s Keeper.” Lulled into a false sense of security only to be bashed over the head with the truth. Thanks Niffengger.
